Act II, sc. i: Quote: seem to defend yourself; Speaker: Edmund to Edgar Explanation: In this scene Edmund tells Edgar to look like he’s defending himself, and then he tells him to run away. When Edgar ran away, Edmund cut himself with his weapon. Soon after Gloucester arrives, and asks what happened to Edmund. Edmund lies and tells his father that Edgar was trying to persuade him to team up and kill him. Furthermore, this causes Gloucester to become enraged and want Edgar found, and he calls him a â€Å"villain†. Act II, sc. ii: Quote: A knave, a rascal, an eater of broken meats; a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy, worst-stocking knave; Speaker: Kent to Oswald Explanation: This quote is important because it demonstrates the little amount of respect has towards Oswald. Due to this lack of respect, the two get into a heated argument and start fighting. After Edmund arrives to separate the two, Cornwall, Regan, and Gloucester show up as well. Then Cornwall orders that Kent be put into stocks. Gloucester warns them that by doing this, the king will be very upset because Kent is his servant.
